HANS HARTUNG

Hans Hartung (1904–1989), a French artist of German birth, was a key figure in the European Art Informel movement. He studied art history and philosophy in Leipzig and Munich before fleeing Nazi Germany for Paris in the 1930s. There, he met influential artists like Kandinsky, Mondrian, and Miró. Hartung fought in WWII, becoming a French citizen afterward. His work gained international recognition, with exhibitions in major European cities and awards such as the Guggenheim prize and the International Prize for Painting. He continued to paint and exhibit globally until his death in 1989.
