ANTON HEYBOER

Anton Heyboer (1924-2005) born in the Dutch East Indies and trained as a draughtsman before being sent to a forced labor camp in WWII, an experience that shaped his life. After the war, he turned to etching as therapy, creating raw, expressive works. Living in isolation in Den Ilp, he sought to exorcise his demons through art and an eccentric commune lifestyle. Internationally acclaimed in the 1970s, he later withdrew, defacing his own work. His final paintings, marked by despair and brilliance, highlight his tragic decline. A forgotten yet significant artist.
